Pune, 29th December 2025: The Pune city police have announced a comprehensive security plan ahead of the Shaurya Din commemorations at Koregaon Bhima on January 1, with more than 7,500 police personnel set to be deployed to ensure the event proceeds peacefully. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar shared the details during a press conference on Monday.

The briefing was attended by senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, Additional Commissioners Sanjay Patil, Pankaj Deshmukh, Manoj Patil, and Rajesh Bansode, along with all Deputy Commissioners of Police.

Commissioner Kumar said extensive planning has been undertaken to manage the large influx of visitors paying homage at the Vijay Stambh. “To avoid congestion and inconvenience, traffic diversions have been planned and 22 designated parking areas have been identified,” he said.

According to police officials, the deployment will include 6,000 personnel from Pune city police, 1,200 officers from neighbouring districts, 1,000 home guards, and units of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF). Surveillance will be enhanced through watchtowers and drone monitoring, while special teams have been assigned to prevent thefts and other criminal incidents during the gathering.

In addition to Koregaon Bhima arrangements, Pune police have rolled out a separate security plan for New Year’s Eve on December 31. Police checkpoints will be set up at key locations, including Fergusson Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nal Stop Chowk, Amanora’s Hadapsar area, and Chandani Chowk, with drones monitoring sensitive zones.

The police have also intensified their ‘drink-and-drive’ enforcement, establishing checkpoints at 60 locations across the city. Officials said action has been taken against nearly 6,500 intoxicated drivers over the past year.

Commissioner Kumar stated that preventive policing has been intensified in preparation for the upcoming Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections. Authorities are focusing on ensuring that habitual offenders do not influence voters or disrupt the electoral process.

Special teams from the crime branch and all seven police zones have been deployed to track individuals involved in glorifying criminal activity. Vigilance has also been increased at pubs, beer bars, and liquor outlets. Preventive action has already been taken against around 5,000 habitual offenders, the commissioner added.

Police officials urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to traffic advisories to ensure peaceful New Year celebrations and Shaurya Din commemorations.
