Pune, 30th December 2025: The Maharashtra government is preparing to raise a loan of around Rs 6,000 crore to fund land acquisition for the proposed international airport at Purandar near Pune. The loan is likely to be sourced from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), and a proposal in this regard is expected to be placed before the state cabinet at its meeting on Tuesday.

The proposed airport will be developed across seven villages in Purandar taluka and will require the acquisition of nearly 3,000 acres of land.

Last week, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an increase in the per-acre compensation rate and assured farmers of additional land instead of the earlier proposal of a 10 per cent return, leading to a rise in the overall acquisition cost.

Earlier, the district administration had estimated the land acquisition cost at around Rs 5,000 crore. Following the revised compensation package announced by the Chief Minister, the projected expenditure has increased by about Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 6,000 crore.

Officials said that once the state cabinet clears the proposal, it will be forwarded to HUDCO for loan approval. After the loan is sanctioned, the process of disbursing compensation to farmers is expected to begin within around 15 days, following which the actual land acquisition process will commence.
