Rs 2 Lakh Bribe Demand, Rs 50,000 Trap: Pune Police Officer Arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau

Pune, 9th September 2026: The Pune unit of the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested an assistant police inspector attached to the Loni Kalbhor Police Station for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a 57-year-old man.
The accused has been identified as Krishna Janardan Babar, 45, an assistant police inspector posted at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station under the Pune City Police.
According to the ACB, a case under Sections 318(3), 318(5) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita had been registered against the complainant and his son at the Loni Kalbhor Police Station. Babar was investigating the case.
The complainant approached the ACB on September 8 and alleged that Babar had demanded ₹50,000 to file the chargesheet in the case before the court at the earliest. The officer also allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh for helping the complainant’s son in connection with an anticipatory bail application pending before the Bombay High Court.
Bribe Demand Verified, Trap Laid
The ACB conducted a verification exercise on September 8. During the process, Babar allegedly reiterated his demand for ₹50,000 and expressed his willingness to accept the money.
ACB officials subsequently laid a trap near Panchamukh 15 Chowk in Manjari, opposite Shrikant Trading shop and near the Shitaladevi temple.
Babar was allegedly caught accepting ₹50,000 from the complainant inside a Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire bearing registration number MH-04-KB-7879. He was taken into custody at approximately 11.02 pm on September 8.
The process of registering a case against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was initiated at the Hadapsar Police Station, the ACB said.

The operation was conducted by Police Inspector Suhas Hatkar under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Walmekar.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Shirish Sardeshpande, Superintendent of Police, ACB Pune, and Ajit Patil, Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB Pune.
