NRAI Pune Seeks Clarity on ‘Do Not Drink and Drive’ Rules Ahead of New Year’s Eve
Pune, 30th December 2025: The National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), Pune Chapter, has written to senior civic, police, administrative and political authorities seeking clarity on the rules applicable to restaurants and hotels under the ‘Do Not Drink and Drive’ campaign ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations.
In a letter addressed to Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram, and Superintendent of Excise Atul A. Kanade, the association highlighted confusion among restaurant and hotel owners due to varied interpretations being circulated in news reports and social media videos.
The NRAI has requested the issuance of an official clarification or circular clearly outlining the responsibilities and guidelines that establishments must follow on December 31 to ensure compliance while supporting road safety measures.
The association has also suggested extending Pune Metro services until 5 am on January 1, 2026. According to the NRAI, longer metro operations during the early hours of New Year’s Day would encourage citizens to use public transport, reduce dependence on private vehicles, and help curb incidents of drunken driving.
Advocate Ajinkya Udane, Co-Chapter Head of NRAI Pune Chapter, said such coordinated measures would strengthen public safety efforts and ensure smoother New Year celebrations in the city.
