Pune RTO Offers Flexible Licence Test Dates to Voters Ahead of Civic Polls
Pune, 2nd January 2026: With municipal elections approaching later this month, the Maharashtra government has introduced a temporary relaxation in driving licence test schedules to ensure that voters can participate in polling without inconvenience, officials from the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) said on Wednesday.
Under a government directive linked to the Municipal Corporation General Elections 2025–26, voters are entitled to a holiday on polling day. In line with this provision, applicants who have booked Learner’s Licence (LL) or Driving Licence (DL) tests on January 15, 2026, and are registered voters, will be allowed to take their tests on alternate dates without rebooking.
Eligible applicants can appear for their licence tests on any working day between January 8 and January 22, 2026, excluding government holidays, during regular office hours. Officials clarified that no fresh appointment will be required under this special arrangement.
The RTO further stated that appointments scheduled for January 25, 2026, will remain unchanged and will be conducted as per the original schedule.
Urging citizens to make use of the concession, the Regional Transport Officer appealed to voters to prioritise participation in the democratic process while availing the flexibility offered for licence tests within the stipulated period.
