Pune, 24th October 2026: A 14-year-old boy suffered multiple fractures after falling into an under-construction water tank at Taljai Vasahat near a biogas plant, where work was underway under the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) equal water supply scheme.

Police have registered a case against L&T project manager Manohar Meheta and the contractor concerned for allegedly failing to implement adequate safety measures at the construction site.

The injured boy, Nikhil Nitin Sathe, a Class VIII student, fractured both legs below the knees and also sustained injuries to his waist, abdomen and hand.

The incident occurred around 6.30pm on October 13, shortly after Nikhil returned from school. He had gone out to play with his friend, Om Sachin Kasbe. A short while later, Om reached Nikhil’s home and informed his family that the boy had fallen into the tank.

Nikhil’s mother, Manju Sathe, his grandmother and uncle rushed to the spot and found him inside the tank. Local resident Uddhav Lahu Kamble alerted the fire brigade, whose personnel rescued the boy. He was subsequently admitted to Bharati Hospital for treatment.

In her complaint, Nikhil’s mother alleged that the construction site lacked protective nets, warning boards and other essential safety measures to prevent accidents.

On October 21, the family approached the PMC’s water supply department at Shivajinagar to inquire about the incident. They were informed that L&T had been awarded the contract for the tank’s construction, according to the complaint.
