Pune–Saswad Bopdev Ghat Road to Remain Closed for a Week; Commuters Advised to Use Alternate Routes
Pune, 8th January 2026: Travellers between Pune and Saswad will need to plan for detours for a week, as the Bopdev Ghat route is scheduled to remain fully closed for all vehicular traffic from January 8 to January 14, 2026, due to essential road maintenance work, officials confirmed.
The Public Works Department (PWD) has issued a notification advising commuters to use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience. Authorities specifically recommended the Dive Ghat route or the Narayanpur–Kapurhol road as viable options during this period.
Highlighting the closure, Baramati MP and NCP-SP Working President Supriya Sule shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“The Bopdev Ghat route from Pune to Saswad will remain completely closed for all types of vehicular traffic from January 8 to January 14, 2026, due to road works, as informed by the Public Works Department. All passengers are requested to take note and use alternative routes.”
The Bopdev Ghat is the shortest and most frequently used route for commuters travelling between Saswad or Purandar and Pune. The temporary closure is expected to impact daily commuters, including those travelling for work, business, or medical purposes, who will now have to rely on longer detours, potentially causing delays.
Authorities have urged the public to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate during the maintenance work to ensure smooth traffic management.
