Pune, 10th January 2026: A court in Pune has sentenced 19 Bangladeshi nationals to two years of rigorous imprisonment for illegally entering India and residing in the city without valid documents.

The order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge U. P. Kulkarni. The accused, comprising both men and women, were also fined ₹500 each. In default of payment, they will have to undergo an additional 10 days of imprisonment. The court further directed that all the convicts be deported to Bangladesh after completing their sentences.

According to the prosecution, the accused crossed the India–Bangladesh border at night by evading border patrols and without obtaining permission from the authorities. They were later found living illegally in Pune and failed to produce any documents establishing Indian citizenship or valid stay.

Additional Public Prosecutor Pramod Hajare represented the state in the case. Following an investigation, a case was registered at the Faraskhana police station. Police confirmed that all 19 accused were Bangladeshi citizens.

The court held the accused guilty under the provisions of the Foreigners Act and observed that strict punishment was warranted in cases involving illegal entry and unauthorised stay in the country.
