Matrimonial Scam in Pune: 43-Year-Old Woman Cheated of Rs 26.5 Lakh
Yerawada, 12th January 2026: A 43-year-old woman was allegedly cheated of Rs 26.50 lakh by an unidentified man who gained her trust after contacting her through a matrimonial website. A case has been registered at the Yerawada Police Station based on the woman’s complaint.
According to the police, the complainant had registered on a matrimonial website in June last year. Following her registration, a man contacted her on her mobile phone, expressing interest in marriage. Over time, he gained her confidence by promising marriage and developed a close relationship with her.
Police said that over the past six months, the accused cited various reasons and persuaded the woman to transfer money on multiple occasions. In total, she transferred Rs 26.50 lakh to the accused’s bank account. However, whenever the woman raised the issue of marriage, the accused allegedly began avoiding her.
Realising that she had been deceived, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint. Based on her statement, Yerawada police have registered a case of cheating along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
The investigation in the matter is being carried out by Police Inspector (Crime) Pallavi Meher.
