Pune Municipal Elections: 12,000 Police Personnel to Ensure Peaceful Voting
Pune, 13th January 2026: Ahead of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections scheduled for Thursday, January 15, the Pune Police have announced the deployment of around 12,000 police personnel to ensure peaceful polling and maintain law and order across the city.
Vote counting will take place on Friday, January 16, and similar security arrangements will be implemented at counting centres as well as in other sensitive areas, police officials said.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the comprehensive security plan is aimed at preventing any law and order situation during the election process. Senior police officers will continuously monitor developments across Pune, while police teams will be on standby to respond promptly to any untoward incident, he added.
A total of 3,983 polling booths have been set up across Pune city and its suburban areas. At least one police personnel will be deployed at each booth. Voting will be conducted in 913 buildings, with two police personnel stationed at each location. Police inspectors and senior officers will conduct regular patrols around polling stations, while Crime Branch teams will be deployed to support local police.
Out of the total polling centres, 90 have been identified as sensitive and will have enhanced security arrangements, including CCTV surveillance. Each sensitive polling station will be guarded by one police officer and five police personnel.
To handle emergencies, eight Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been formed, along with a special striking force comprising six senior police officers and 50 police personnel.
The security arrangements are being implemented under the supervision of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, and Additional Commissioners Manoj Patil, Rajesh Bansode, Pankaj Deshmukh and Sanjay Patil.
