Pune, 16th January 2026: The results of municipal elections for 29 civic bodies across Maharashtra were declared on Thursday, confirming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the dominant force in most urban centres, including Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Both cities witnessed a decisive victory for the BJP, highlighting the party’s growing influence in Maharashtra’s urban political landscape.

In Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the main contest was between the BJP and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction. Despite a high-profile campaign by Ajit Pawar, the BJP secured overwhelming control in both municipal corporations, leaving the NCP with only a few seats.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation: Ward-Wise Highlights

Ward 1: Nilesh Nevale (BJP), Vikas Sane (NCP), Yash Sane (NCP), Sonam More (BJP)

Ward 2: Sujata Borate (BJP), Sarika Borhade (BJP), Rahul Jadhav (BJP), Nikhil Borhade (BJP)

Ward 5: Bhimabai Phuge (NCP), Sagar Gawali (BJP), Kavita Bhonagle (BJP), Jalinder Shinde (BJP)

Ward 7: Viraj Lande (NCP), Sonali Gavhane (BJP), Rani Pathare (BJP), Nitin Landge (BJP)

Ward 18: Aparna Doke (BJP), Manisha Chinchwade (BJP), Anant Korhale (NCP), Suresh Bhoir (BJP)

Ward 22: Neeta Padale (BJP), Komal Kale (BJP), Vinod Nadhe (BJP), Santosh Kokane (NCP)

Ward 25: Rahul Kalate (BJP), Kunal Vhavalkar (BJP-RPI), Reshma Bhujbal (BJP), Shruti Wakdekar (BJP)

Political analysts attribute the BJP’s dominance to its organisational strength, grassroots outreach, and governance record, while the NCP’s limited gains reflect the electorate’s preference for the ruling party in urban centres, despite intensive campaigning by Ajit Pawar.

Election authorities are in the process of finalising the full results for all wards and candidates across both cities, but early trends indicate a comfortable majority for the BJP, ensuring continued control over civic administration in these key urban hubs.
