PMC Election Results 2026: BJP Clinches First-Ever Full Panel Victory in Ward 25, Rahul Kalate Leads Political Turnaround
Pune, 17th January 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scripted history in the Wakad–Punawale–Tathawade belt by winning all seats in Ward No. 25, marking the party’s first complete sweep in the ward and ending years of dominance by rival political formations. The emphatic outcome has been widely attributed to the leadership and grassroots mobilisation led by Rahul Tanaji Kalate.
The civic election result has significantly altered the local political landscape, with voters delivering a decisive mandate in favour of the BJP despite a combined challenge from the Nationalist Congress Party, Congress, Shiv Sena and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction). Political observers described the verdict as a clear endorsement of leadership and local engagement rather than party symbolism alone.
Kalate, who recently joined the BJP after a struggle-oriented political journey, emerged as the highest vote-getter with 24,115 votes. He was joined by fellow BJP candidates Kunal Vavhalkar, who secured 17,275 votes, Reshma Chetan Bhujbal with 22,566 votes, and Shruti Ram Wakadkar with 21,837 votes, completing a rare clean sweep for the party in the ward.
Initially, Kalate’s induction into the BJP had sparked debate within political circles. However, his sustained outreach, direct interaction with residents and focus on development-related issues gradually gained traction, particularly among voters in IT-professional-dominated housing societies. His campaign highlighted civic infrastructure, planned urban growth and everyday governance concerns, themes that resonated strongly on the ground.
Notably, the Ward 25 contest remained largely driven by local leadership, with minimal involvement from senior state-level figures. BJP workers and grassroots leaders including Navnath Dhawale, Bharti Vinode and Chetan Bhujbal played a crucial role in strengthening booth-level coordination and expanding the party’s voter base.
Celebrations followed the announcement of results, with residents welcoming Kalate through traditional rituals and expressions of support. Responding to the victory, Kalate thanked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, BJP state president Ravindra Chavan and senior leaders Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Chandrakant Patil for their guidance and backing.
“This mandate belongs to the people who stood with me through every challenge. The support of party workers, voters and my family has been my greatest strength,” Kalate said.
He further stated that the victory carries responsibility along with success. “The people have placed their trust in us, and the BJP panel has been elected unanimously. We are committed to fulfilling every promise made during the campaign.”
The BJP’s maiden clean sweep in Ward 25 is being seen as more than an electoral milestone. It reflects a shift in voter priorities toward grassroots leadership and development-focused politics, while setting high expectations for delivery and governance in the coming term.
