Tomorrow, Schools to Remain Closed in Camp for Pune Grand Tour 2026

Camp, 20th January 2026: All government and private schools in Pune Cantonment Board limits will remain closed on January 21 (Wednesday), as the city hosts the international cycling event, Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026. The decision has been taken in view of large-scale traffic diversions and security arrangements required for the event.

According to an official order issued by Jitendra Dudi (IAS), District Collector and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, Pune, the Stage-2 race of the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 will be held on January 21. The cycling route will pass through key areas.

The order states that due to the race, major roads will remain closed intermittently, and heavy traffic restrictions will be in place throughout the day. As a result, students will face difficulties commuting to schools, and safety concerns have been raised.

“In the interest of student safety and smooth conduct of the international cycling competition, all government and private schools under Pune Cantonment Board limits shall remain closed on January 21, 2026,” the order said.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma has appealed people to not use vehicles for traveling in the area.

The directive has been issued under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, empowering the District Administration to take preventive steps during major public events. The decision has also been communicated to the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune Police Commissionerate, education officers, and school managements.

Authorities have appealed to citizens, traders, professionals and parents to cooperate with the administration and plan their schedules accordingly. Emergency services will remain operational, and traffic police will provide real-time updates through official social media channels.

The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour 2026 is an international cycling competition that has drawn elite riders from across the world and is expected to bring large crowds and global attention to the city.
