Pune, 20th January 2026: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has appealed to driving licence holders to ensure that their mobile numbers are updated in official records, warning that failure to do so may lead to difficulties in accessing key transport-related services.

In a press note issued by the transport authorities, it was stated that several essential services related to driving licences are now linked to mobile numbers registered on the Sarathi portal. These include receiving OTPs, status updates, and notifications for licence-related applications and services.

The RTO noted that many citizens face problems while availing online services due to mismatched or outdated mobile numbers in the driving licence database. To address this, licence holders have been advised to update their mobile numbers at the earliest through the Sarathi Parivahan portal (sarthi.parivahan.gov.in).

According to the press note, applicants must ensure that the mobile number entered matches the number linked with their Aadhaar or other identity records, as OTP-based verification is mandatory for most services. In case of discrepancies, applicants may be required to visit the concerned RTO for verification.

The transport department clarified that updating the mobile number is crucial for smooth processing of services such as licence renewal, address change, duplicate licence issuance, and other online transactions. Citizens were also advised to avoid middlemen and complete the process themselves through the official government portal.

The RTO has urged all driving licence holders to treat the update as a priority to avoid inconvenience in the future, as digital services under the transport department continue to expand and rely heavily on mobile-based authentication systems.
