Pune: Cancer Screening Camp for Women Draws Strong Response at Wadebolai Village
Pune, 21st January 2026: As part of efforts to strengthen early detection of women-centric cancers, Shri Balaji Foundation organised a breast and cervical cancer screening camp for women at Wadebolai village in Haveli taluka on Friday. A total of 389 women participated in the initiative, reflecting growing awareness about preventive healthcare at the grassroots level.
The medical examinations were conducted by a team of specialists and healthcare staff from the Integrated Cancer Treatment and Research Centre (ICTRC), Wagholi. Participants underwent general health check-ups along with breast thermal screening and Pap smear tests as part of comprehensive cancer screening.
The camp was formally inaugurated by senior social worker Jyotitai Savardekar in the presence of representatives from the healthcare, social service, and education sectors. Notable attendees included Dr Manasingh Sabale, President of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Charitable Hospital Assistance Cell (Pune district); Dr Mayur Khade of Shri Balaji Foundation; Dr Vrushali Randhir, Principal of Wadia College of Commerce; Rotary Club of Shivajinagar President Prakash Gaikwad; Shyam Arjunwadkar; and Dr Shweta Gujar, Deputy Director of ICTRC, along with other office-bearers.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Shweta Gujar highlighted the importance of early diagnosis in reducing cancer-related mortality among women. She provided guidance on identifying early symptoms of breast and cervical cancer and stressed the need for regular screening.
Jyotitai Savardekar, in her address, appealed to women to make routine health check-ups a priority. “Cases of breast and cervical cancer are steadily increasing. Timely screening can lead to early detection and significantly improve treatment outcomes,” she said.
Shri Balaji Foundation has been actively working in the public health sector and regularly conducts breast, cervical, and oral cancer screening camps in both rural and urban areas. The organisation also organises awareness sessions in schools, colleges, and women’s self-help groups to promote preventive healthcare practices.
Local residents welcomed the initiative and praised the foundation’s sustained efforts in advancing women’s health awareness and access to essential medical screening services.
