Pune, 8th January 2026: Global electronic design automation major Cadence has completed 20 years of operations in Pune, marking the city’s emergence as a key research and development base for the company. The milestone highlights two decades of continuous investment, technology development, and talent growth in the region.

Cadence’s Pune journey began in 2006 through Tensilica, which later became part of Cadence, at a time when Pune was still an emerging destination for multinational technology firms. From a modest team of five engineers, the Pune facility has grown into a major R&D centre with a workforce of over 300 professionals and is continuing to expand.

The Pune centre plays a strategic role within Cadence’s Silicon Solutions Group. Engineers based here are involved in the development of advanced digital signal processing IP, artificial intelligence accelerators, DDR solutions, and mixed-signal IP. These technologies are used by leading semiconductor and electronics companies globally, powering applications across consumer electronics, data centres, and the automotive sector.

Boyd Phelps, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Silicon Solutions Group at Cadence, said the anniversary reflects the strength of the teams based in Pune and their contribution to global products. He noted that the steady expansion of the Pune operations underscores the company’s long-term confidence in the region’s engineering talent and its commitment to continued investment in India.

Looking ahead, Cadence said it remains focused on driving innovation in silicon IP while strengthening the local talent ecosystem. The company works closely with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), AICTE, IITs, and more than 400 universities to support chip design education and skill development. It is also associated with initiatives such as Chips to Startup to encourage semiconductor entrepreneurship.

Through the use of advanced EDA tools and India-led innovation in areas such as AI-driven design and chiplet-based architectures, Cadence aims to contribute to India’s semiconductor ambitions while supporting next-generation global technology development.
