Pune: Ajit Pawar Death Triggers 3-Day State Mourning and Closure of Govt Offices in Maharashtra
Mumbai/Pune, 28th January 2026: The Government of Maharashtra has announced the sad demise of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Ashatai Anantrao Pawar today, January 28, 2026.
In an official wireless message issued by the General Administration Department (Protocol Section), the state government has declared a three-day period of state mourning to pay respects to the departed dignitary.
State Mourning Protocols
According to the notification signed by Under Secretary H.P. Baviskar, state mourning will be observed throughout Maharashtra from January 28, 2026, to January 30, 2026 (both days inclusive).
The government has issued the following directives for this period:
The National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the state on all buildings where it is regularly flown.
There will be no official entertainment conducted during these three days.
State Holiday Declared
The Government of Maharashtra has also declared the closure of all state government offices across the state for today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026, on account of the Deputy Chief Minister’s passing.
Instructions have been relayed to the Chief Secretary, all Divisional Commissioners, District Collectors, and Police Commissioners across Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and other districts to ensure immediate compliance with the mourning protocols.
