Pune, 30th January 20226: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed Aniruddha Pawaskar, currently Chief Engineer of the Road Department, as the city’s new City Engineer, marking a key transition in the civic body’s engineering leadership.

The promotion was cleared by the Departmental Promotion Committee, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and later received formal approval from the City Improvement Committee.

Pawaskar was selected over another senior official, Nandkishore Jagtap, Chief Engineer of the Water Supply Department, following a comprehensive evaluation by the promotion panel.

He will assume charge as the current City Engineer, Prashant Waghmare, is scheduled to retire on January 31, 2026. With Waghmare’s tenure nearing its end, internal deliberations over his successor had been underway within PMC for the past several months.

The City Engineer’s post is among the four key statutory positions in the PMC — alongside the Municipal Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, and Health Chief — that require government approval. The role carries significant responsibility, as the City Engineer oversees all engineering departments and heads the civic body’s Construction Department, making it one of the most senior and influential technical positions in the corporation.

With this appointment, PMC is expected to see continuity in infrastructure planning and execution, particularly in major urban development and road projects currently underway across the city.
