Tehseen Poonawalla’s Mother Injured in Hit-and-Run at Pune Petrol Pump
Pune, 4th February 2026: Political analyst and activist Tehseen Poonawalla on Tuesday said his 75-year-old mother was seriously injured after a reversing SUV hit her at a petrol pump in Pune and is currently undergoing treatment for a fractured hip.
The incident took place around 5.30 pm near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) area. Poonawalla said his mother had gone out with the family driver and his executive assistant. While their car was being refuelled, she was standing a few steps away inside the petrol pump premises when an unidentified vehicle struck her while reversing and sped away.
According to Poonawalla, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to offer any help. He termed the circumstances “disturbing” and said his mother was not even near the car when she was hit.
She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Pune, where doctors confirmed a fracture in her hip. Hospital sources said her condition is stable and she is under close observation. Surgery is expected once her medical parameters are cleared. Poonawalla said doctors have advised an operation within the next couple of days.
Reacting to the incident, he said it was deeply upsetting that a senior citizen had to go through such trauma. He also pointed out that he has received threats in the past and that there are police and intelligence records regarding his security concerns.
A formal complaint is being filed, and Pune Police have begun checking CCTV footage from the petrol pump and nearby areas to identify the vehicle involved.
Authorities said it is too early to determine whether the incident was intentional or the result of negligent driving. The investigation is ongoing.
