Pune, 5th January 2026: Registering a housing or self-employment cooperative society in Maharashtra will soon become easier, with the state Cooperation Department set to introduce an online registration system. Citizens will no longer need to visit cooperative offices, as the entire process—from application to issuance of the registration certificate—will be available online.

The Cooperation Department, which oversees cooperative banks, credit societies, housing societies and various functional cooperatives, has decided to offer this service through the state government’s Aaple Sarkar portal. The facility is currently being tested on a pilot basis with support from MahaIT and is expected to be rolled out across the state soon.

Under the new system, applicants will be able to access the service via the Right to Services section on the Aaple Sarkar portal. Details regarding the application process, required documents and applicable fees will be provided online. Applicants can upload documents, pay the registration fee digitally and download the registration certificate once the process is completed.

Maharashtra has around 56 different types of cooperative societies, including housing, self-employment, unemployed youth, tribal and labour cooperatives. Until now, applicants had to submit physical applications to the Cooperation Department, often facing delays due to a lack of clear information about documentation and
procedures.

Officials said the move to online registration aims to simplify the process, reduce delays and improve convenience for citizens planning to form new cooperative societies across the state.
