Mumbai, February 10, 2026: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in collaboration with Maha Metro, and HDFC Bank, the exclusive acquirer bank for Pune Metro, today announced the enablement of RuPay On-The-Go (OTG) card acceptance across Pune Metro. With this rollout, commuters can tap their existing RuPay On-The-Go cards to travel across all operational stations of Pune Metro for a seamless digital ticketing experience via contactless and interoperable payment solutions. The implementation went live in the august presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Devendra Fadnavis.

Pune Metro, which has been enabling commuters through paper and mobile QR tickets, and HDFC Bank One Pune NCMC RuPay cards, now offers an enhanced travel experience with the introduction of open-loop RuPay On-The-Go acceptance. Through this development, any existing or new RuPay On-The-Go card can be used to tap and travel across the Aqua and Purple lines, covering all 29 operational stations.

The advancement will provide daily passengers with a unified, convenient, and seamless way to travel, allowing officegoers, students, and travellers to use the same card across the entire network. It simplifies commuting by eliminating the need to buy separate tickets for every trip, or for different metro lines. RuPay On-The-Go card further supports interoperability across various buses and metros, and features offline payment capability, ensuring consistent consumer experience even in low-network areas.

Shravan Hardikar, IAS, Managing Director – Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited said, “The launch of NCMC Card interoperability for Pune Metro is a truly transformative milestone. In alignment with the Honourable Prime Minister’s vision of ‘One Nation, One Card’, this initiative will significantly ease and modernise metro travel for our commuters. By offering a seamless, pay-as-you-go experience with automatic fare discounts, we are making public transport more accessible, affordable, and commuter-friendly. I congratulate the entire Pune Metro team, our partners HDFC Bank and Paycraft, and all the people who made this landmark achievement possible. This is a big step towards building a unified, smart, and future-ready transit ecosystem for our city and our nation.”

Sohini Rajola, Executive Director – Growth, NPCI, said, “The activation of RuPay On-The-Go across Pune Metro is an important step in advancing India’s vision of seamless urban mobility. We are happy to work with MoHUA, Maha Metro, and HDFC Bank in enabling this experience for Pune’s growing commuter base. By improving convenience, we are ensuring that digital payments touch the lives of Indians everywhere.”

Rajanish Parmanand Prabhu, Head – Payments and Digital Banking Channels, HDFC Bank said, “We are committed to building digital journeys that are simple, intuitive and powered by modern platforms. The RuPay On-The-Go card will not only elevate the commute experience for travellers in Pune but also enable them to save on time. We are thankful to NPCI, MoHUA and Maha Metro for the opportunity to be the payment partner for RuPay On-The-Go card for Pune.”

RuPay On-The-Go acceptance in Pune Metro contributes to broader NCMC adoption across various metro and bus networks nationwide, accelerating India’s transition to smart mobility infrastructure and providing passengers with a simplified and consistent travel experience.

Users can avail the RuPay On-The-Go card, not just in Pune, but also across a growing list of transit networks, including metros in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kanpur, as well as bus services in cities like Mumbai (B.E.S.T), Guwahati, Haryana, Jammu, Srinagar, Himachal and Aurangabad.
