Pune: Activist Demands Criminal Action Over Sewage Discharge in Mohammadwadi
Kondhwa, 11th February 2026: BJP member and social activist Jaymala Dhankikar has demanded immediate criminal action against housing societies and builders in the Mohammadwadi–NIBM Annexe area for allegedly releasing untreated sewage water onto public roads instead of processing it through Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).
In a letter addressed to Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Dhankikar said the practice was not only illegal but also a serious threat to public health and the environment. She urged the civic administration to carry out inspections and take strict action against those found violating STP norms.
“Some societies and developers are either not operating their STPs or are bypassing them completely to cut costs. As a result, untreated sewage is being discharged on roads and open spaces, causing foul smell, mosquito breeding and the spread of diseases,” Dhankikar said.

She warned that the discharge of raw sewage leads to contamination, damages road infrastructure and increases the risk of vector-borne illnesses. “Health and sanitation are fundamental to citizens’ well-being. Such violations cannot be taken lightly,” she added.
In her letter, Dhankikar asked PMC to register criminal cases under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, the Environment Protection Act and other applicable laws against defaulting builders and managing committees. She also called for regular third-party audits of STPs, heavy penalties for violators, and the sealing of water connections of repeat offenders.

Dhankikar further demanded that PMC publish a public compliance report on STP operations to ensure transparency and accountability. “I urge the administration to treat this issue with utmost seriousness and initiate immediate corrective and punitive measures,” she said.
