Pune: Kondhwa-Yewalewadi Metro Extension Moves Ahead, DPR Expected by December
Pune, 9th September 2026: The pace of work on the proposed Metro extension to Kondhwa-Yewalewadi has picked up, with the detailed project report (DPR) expected to be ready within the next three months. Maha Metro officials said the project could be completed by 2030-31, provided approvals and road-widening works move as planned.
The proposed Metro extension connecting Kondhwa, NIBM Road and Yewalewadi has moved closer to the planning stage, with Maha Metro expecting to complete its detailed project report (DPR) within three months.
The development comes after consultants appointed about two months ago began field surveys and alignment studies for the proposed elevated corridor. Maha Metro director (works) Atul Gadgil said the project could be completed by 2030-31 if statutory approvals and road-widening works progress according to schedule.
The proposed alignment will extend from Shivajinagar to the Collectorate and pass through Camp and Pulgate towards Kondhwa and Yewalewadi. A spur corridor is also proposed from Jyoti Square to NIBM Junction and onwards to Undri near Bishop’s School. Stations are planned at intervals of about 1 km.
Once the DPR is completed, the proposal will go through statutory approvals before being sent to the state and central governments for final sanction, officials said.
The proposed extension has been a long-standing demand of residents of Kondhwa, NIBM Road, Undri and Wanowrie, where rapid urbanisation has added to traffic congestion and strained public transport.
