Pune, 13th February 2026: The Pune district administration has announced a conditional relaxation of loudspeaker restrictions for 15 designated festival days in 2026, permitting the use of sound amplification systems from 6 am to midnight.

The order has been issued by District Collector Jitendra Dudi under Rule 5(3) of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, as amended in 2017. Officials clarified that the exemption will apply strictly on notified occasions and subject to prescribed decibel limits.

The relaxation will be applicable on the following occasions:
Shiv Jayanti – February 19
Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti – April 14
Maharashtra Day – May 1
Ganesh Chaturthi – During the Ganpati festival period
Eid-e-Milad – September (exact date as per lunar calendar)
Anant Chaturdashi – September 19, 20, 22, 23, 24 and 25
Navratri– October 19 and 20
Christmas – December 25
New Year’s Eve – December 31

In addition, the administration has kept two days in reserve to accommodate other significant events, subject to approval.

Authorities have emphasised that the relaxation does not override noise level restrictions prescribed for residential, commercial, and industrial zones. The exemption will not apply within designated silent zones, including areas surrounding hospitals, educational institutions, and courts.

Enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure compliance, and violations may attract action under relevant provisions of law.

The annual notification is intended to strike a balance between facilitating traditional and community celebrations while maintaining environmental safeguards against excessive noise pollution. Collector Dudi has appealed to organisers and citizens to cooperate with authorities and adhere strictly to the guidelines.
