Pune, 17th February 2026: With the nationwide Census scheduled to begin next year, the Pune district administration has commenced preparations to ensure seamless execution of the first phase of the exercise. A comprehensive review meeting was convened at the District Collector’s Office to coordinate implementation across local self-governing bodies ahead of the March rollout.
The meeting was chaired by Resident Deputy Collector and District Census Officer Jyoti Kadam and conducted via video conference. Tehsildars from across the district, Chief Executive Officers of cantonment boards, and Chief Officers of municipal councils and nagar panchayats participated in the deliberations.
Officials informed that the upcoming Census will be conducted through an upgraded mobile application, marking a significant step toward digital data collection. Enumerators and supervisors will be required to download and operate the application during fieldwork.
In Pune district, the house-listing phase is scheduled from May 16 to June 15, with administrative orders for manpower deployment already issued.
Addressing officials, Jyoti Kadam stated that designated master trainers would be appointed to impart structured training to enumerators and supervisors. The state government has issued a notification regarding personnel appointments, and recruitment will proceed in accordance with prescribed guidelines.
As per Census norms:
-Each Census block will cover 180 to 200 households, representing approximately 700 to 800 individuals.
-One enumerator will be assigned per block.
-One supervisor will oversee six enumerators.
The district administration has begun preparing detailed training schedules and allocating resources to prevent operational disruptions during the critical exercise.
Administrative Boundaries Finalised
As of December 31, administrative boundaries have been confirmed for:
-13 talukas
-14 municipal councils and nagar parishads
-Two municipal corporations

Officials have been instructed to meticulously document geographical limits, newly developed residential clusters, and migrant households while preparing the house-list to ensure accurate data capture.
The digital platform will facilitate the preparation of both household and block lists. Discussions during the meeting also centred on effective use of digital tools, prompt resolution of technical challenges, inter-departmental coordination, and systematic training programmes.
The state government has directed all districts to complete advance groundwork for the nationwide Census, with emphasis on timely appointment and training of enumerators and supervisors for the house-listing phase, Kadam added.
