Daund, 26th February 2026: The Electric Locomotive Shed at Daund, being executed by IRCON International Limited, has reached 95 per cent physical and financial completion against an approved cost of ₹157 crore. The project is aimed at strengthening electric traction maintenance infrastructure in the region.

Officials confirmed that the shed is currently operational with a holding of 50 electric locomotives and has an overall capacity to accommodate 200 locomotives. Civil, electrical and allied infrastructure works under the project are reported to be substantially complete.

A key component of the project, the newly constructed Time Office building, was inaugurated on 07 February 2028. The building has been developed as a multi-purpose administrative and operational block to support daily functioning and staff requirements.

The Time Office is equipped with a security room integrated with a CCTV surveillance system for monitoring of premises. A biometric attendance system has also been installed to streamline staff attendance recording. The facility includes two rooms designated as Officers’ Rest House (ORH) accommodation.

In addition, a Basic Training Center has been incorporated within the building to facilitate skill development and training activities. A dormitory with nine beds has been provided to accommodate outstation railway staff visiting the shed for study purposes or material collection. A kitchen facility has also been constructed to support boarding arrangements.

As part of the mechanical infrastructure upgrade, a high-precision Pit Wheel Lathe Machine supplied by M/s HYT has been commissioned at an approximate cost of ₹25 crore. The machine is designed for precision measurement and machining of locomotive wheel profiles to ensure compliance with prescribed tolerance limits.

The lathe assesses and corrects parameters including tread profile, flange height, flange thickness and concentricity, which are critical for safe running dynamics and track interaction of electric locomotives.

To support shunting operations within the shed premises, a battery-operated Road-Cum-Rail (RCR) vehicle has also been deployed. The vehicle is capable of operating both on railway tracks and road surfaces.

The RCR vehicle is used for moving locomotives and rolling stock in non-powered condition or in areas outside the Overhead Equipment (OHE) zone where conventional electric shunting locomotives cannot operate. Officials stated that the vehicle facilitates safe movement of traction units to and from the pit wheel lathe and other maintenance points within the shed.
