Camp, 3rd March 2026: A formal complaint has been submitted to the Pune City Police demanding the immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against NCP MLA Sangram Jagtap and BJP Mahesh Landge. The legislators have been accused of using derogatory, hateful, and provocative language against the Muslim community in separate public addresses.

The complaint letter, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) with copies sent to the Pune Police Commissioner, the District Collector, and the Maharashtra Home Minister, urges authorities to book the politicians under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

According to the written submission, MLA Sangram Jagtap allegedly made highly objectionable and insulting remarks regarding Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei on a public platform. The complainants allege that Jagtap used deeply offensive language and generalizations, which have severely hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslim community and carry the potential to incite anger and communal disharmony.

Furthermore, the complaint highlights a separate video featuring MLA Mahesh Landge, wherein he is accused of using a highly offensive communal slur directed at the Muslim community.

According to the document, Landge stated that he does not want the votes of those belonging to this specific community, accusing them of casting an “evil eye” on mothers and sisters.

The complainants argue that these statements are a deliberate attempt to spread hatred and disrupt social harmony. They have provided links to Instagram reels as digital evidence of both incidents.

The delegation, comprising several citizens and activists including Adv. Abul Sonawane, Munawar Qureshi, Ahmed Sayyad, and others, has requested the police to invoke BNS Sections 196(a) (promoting enmity on grounds of religion), 299 (deliberate intent to outrage religious feelings), 353(a) (statements spreading hatred/dissatisfaction in society), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).

Highlighting the sensitive nature of the issue, the signatories have demanded three immediate actions:

The immediate registration of an FIR against both MLAs.

A thorough technical and legal investigation into the purported videos.

Preventive measures to ensure that law and order are maintained in the city.

Authorities at the Lashkar Police Station have received the physical copy of the complaint.

An official police response regarding the initiation of an inquiry or the filing of an FIR is currently awaited.
