Pune, 4th March 2026: Summer has begun to make its presence felt in Pune and several parts of Maharashtra, with maximum temperatures crossing 35°C in the first week of March. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a further rise in temperatures over the coming days.

The influence of cold northerly winds has weakened completely, leading to a steady increase in daytime temperatures. Most parts of the state are now recording maximum temperatures above 30°C, signalling the onset of summer conditions.

According to IMD data, on March 2, Koregaon Park recorded 35.7°C, Shivajinagar 35.3°C, and Talegaon 35.2°C. On March 3, Shivajinagar recorded 35.5°C, Lohgaon 36.4°C, and Chinchwad 35°C, with Lohgaon registering the highest temperature in Pune that day.

The weather department has predicted dry weather across Maharashtra. In Vidarbha, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3°C, while in the rest of the state, including south Maharashtra, temperatures may increase by 2 to 4°C. Skies over Pune are expected to remain mainly clear.

Senior meteorologist Anupam Kashyapi said maximum temperatures are rising across the state, particularly in Mumbai, Palghar, Thane, and Raigad. There are no indications of a drop in minimum temperatures, and Pune is likely to witness a further increase in daytime heat.

On Tuesday, Akola recorded the highest temperature in the state at 38.6°C. Other high readings included 38°C in Solapur, 38.5°C in Wardha, 37.9°C in Parbhani, and 37.2°C in Jalgaon and Brahmapuri.

The rising temperatures across regions indicate that summer conditions are intensifying in Maharashtra.
