Holi ‘Drink and Drive’ Crackdown & Counseling
On March 3, 2026, during the Holi and Dhulivandan celebrations, traffic police intercepted and penalized 455 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol across Pune city.
Taking a rehabilitative approach alongside penal action, the Traffic Branch organized a special counseling session today, March 4, at the DCP Traffic Office in Yerwada. Between 250 and 300 offenders caught during the drive attended the session, where the Deputy Commissioner of Police personally guided them on road safety and the severe risks of drunk driving.
Bulldozer Rolled Over Modified Silencers
Continuing their special drive initiated in February 2026 against noise pollution, the police took action against 2,822 Bullet motorcycles fitted with modified, loud silencers.
Fines: A total fine of Rs. 28,17,000 was imposed on these riders, out of which Rs. 23,15,000 has already been recovered by the government.
Destruction: Police confiscated 870 rule-breaking silencers. In a strong message to violators, a bulldozer was driven over all 870 seized silencers today at the Yerwada DCP office, destroying them completely to prevent reuse.

Massive Fines for Triple-Seat Riding
The traffic department also released staggering data regarding triple-seat riding from February 2026 to date.
Action was taken against 15,009 two-wheeler riders for carrying three passengers.
A massive total fine of Rs. 1,48,95,000 (Over Rs. 1.48 Crore) was levied, with Rs. 88,52,000 already collected and deposited with the government.
Appeal to the Citizens
DCP Himmat Jadhav issued a stern warning and an appeal to Pune residents:
No Drunk Driving: Driving under the influence is a serious, punishable offense that endangers lives. Citizens must follow traffic rules to help make Pune a safe city.
No Noise Pollution: Avoid using deafening horns that cause public nuisance. Strict legal action is being taken against vehicles honking unnecessarily.
Respect Silence Zones: Refrain from unnecessary honking in silence zones such as hospitals, schools, colleges, and residential societies.
No Triple Riding: Do not ride triple-seat on two-wheelers, as it puts both the riders’ and others’ lives at risk.
