LPG Supply Concern: Government Extends Second Cylinder Booking Period to 21 Days
Pune, 9th March 2026: Amid concerns over potential supply disruptions due to tensions in the Gulf region, the Government of India has increased the waiting period for booking a second domestic LPG cylinder to 21 days.
Earlier, consumers could book another cylinder 15 days after receiving the first one. Under the revised rule, the waiting period has been extended by 10 days, meaning customers will now have to wait 21 days before placing a new booking.
According to the new guidelines, both domestic and commercial consumers will be allowed to receive only one cylinder per month. LPG distribution companies have been directed to strictly follow these instructions.
The decision has reportedly been implemented suddenly and without prior notice, leading to confusion among gas agencies as well as consumers.
Officials said the move has been taken as a precautionary measure, as the ongoing tensions in the Gulf region could affect India’s imports of crude oil and cooking gas. By regulating supply, the government aims to ensure that available stocks are used carefully and that a larger shortage does not arise in the coming months.
Earlier, households could plan their usage by booking a second cylinder within 15 days. With the waiting period now extended to 21 days, larger families may face difficulties managing their monthly cooking gas requirements and household budgets.
