Pune: 23-year-old dies after alleged assault by minor girl’s family over suspected relationship

Pune, 15 March 2026: A 23-year-old man allegedly died after being assaulted by the relatives of a minor girl over their suspected relationship in the Kothrud area of Pune on Friday, police said.

The deceased, identified as Nagesh Jadhav, was a resident of the Wadarwadi area. Police said Jadhav was allegedly in a relationship with a minor girl and her family had objected to it.

According to the police, members of the girl’s family allegedly sent Jadhav a message from the girl’s mobile phone asking him to come to a particular location. When he reached the spot, he was allegedly surrounded and beaten up by several of her relatives.

Jadhav sustained serious injuries in the assault and was initially taken to a private hospital. He was later shifted to Sassoon General Hospital, where he died during treatment, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by Jadhav’s mother, the police have registered a case at the Kothrud Police Station against 10 persons, including the girl’s father and other relatives. The accused have been booked under sections 103, 115(2), 352, 351(2), 189(2), 191(2) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said Jadhav worked as an office assistant at a private firm. In her complaint, his mother stated that she received a call from the girl’s family on Friday asking her to come to the spot and take her son away, claiming he had been beaten up for being in a relationship with the girl.

She rushed to the location and took him to a private hospital before shifting him to Sassoon Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said more than 10 persons, including the girl’s parents, uncle and other relatives, have been booked for allegedly conspiring and carrying out the assault. Further investigation is underway.
