Pune Student Critically Injured in ‘Koyta’ Attack Outside College in Wagholi; CCTV Video Surfaces
Wagholi, 16th March 2026: A college student was critically injured after he was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon outside a college in Pune’s Wagholi area, in a shocking daylight incident that has raised concerns about student safety near educational campuses.
The victim has been identified as Nagesh Jagtap. According to police, the assault took place outside G H Raisoni College of Engineering and Management in Wagholi while the student was sitting near a roadside hotel with friends and having tea.
Investigators said the main accused, Mangesh Sangale, allegedly arrived at the spot with two associates and confronted Jagtap over an earlier dispute. What reportedly began as a verbal exchange soon escalated after Sangale allegedly questioned the victim about abusing him.
During the argument, the accused allegedly attacked Jagtap with a koyta (sickle-like weapon) and repeatedly struck him. Police said the assault was so severe that the weapon reportedly became lodged in the victim’s head during the attack.
Despite the serious injury, Jagtap was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for multiple injuries to his head, back and other parts of his body.
The entire episode was captured on CCTV cameras installed outside the hotel. The footage reportedly shows the attackers approaching the victim, carrying out the assault, and fleeing the scene shortly afterward. The video has since surfaced online and is being examined as part of the investigation.
Officials from Wagholi Police Station said a case has been registered in connection with the attack. One of the accused has been arrested while efforts are underway to trace the two other suspects who fled after the incident.
The violent assault has triggered concern among residents and students in the Wagholi area, once again raising questions about safety around college campuses in Pune.
