Pune, 28th October 2026: Pune has witnessed a dip in minimum temperatures over the past few days, bringing relatively cooler mornings to the city. However, despite the development of Cyclone Arnab over the Bay of Bengal, its direct impact on Pune is expected to remain limited, with no significant rainfall forecast.

Cyclone Arnab, pronounced “Ornab”, is moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and is expected to cross the coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam. The system is likely to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining regions, while its influence over Maharashtra is expected to be limited.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Shivajinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 16.3°C on October 27, which was 0.9°C below normal. The maximum temperature stood at 33.7°C, 2.2°C above normal.

The minimum temperature in Pune is forecast to rise gradually over the next few days, reaching around 20°C by October 31. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 33°C and 34°C during this period.

The cyclone’s influence on temperatures depends on changes in cloud cover, wind direction and atmospheric conditions. Increased cloud cover can limit daytime heating by reducing the amount of sunlight reaching the ground, while rainfall can temporarily lower temperatures. However, a cyclone does not necessarily cause temperatures to fall in areas far from its path.

Weather forecasts indicate that Maharashtra is unlikely to receive widespread rainfall from the system. Any impact is expected to be limited, particularly in areas closer to the cyclone’s inland path, including parts of Vidarbha adjoining Telangana and Chhattisgarh.

For Pune, the IMD forecast indicates mainly clear skies on October 28, turning partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening. Partly cloudy conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, with no significant rainfall indicated in the available forecast.

The cyclone is expected to weaken after making landfall and moving inland. Its subsequent movement and the resulting changes in atmospheric conditions will determine whether Maharashtra experiences any further weather changes.
