Pune: Swift Response by Cops Saves Woman Planning to Jump from 200-ft hill
Pune, 20th March 2026: A woman was rescued from an alleged suicide attempt on Friday evening by the officials of the Ambegaon police station. The incident took place near the new Katraj tunnel on the Mumbai–Pune–Satara highway, where the woman had climbed onto a hill edge and was planning to jump.
According to senior police inspector Sharad Zhine, information about the incident was received at the control room around 4.15 pm, stating that a woman was attempting suicide near an Indian Oil petrol pump.
A police team from Ambegaon police station rushed to the spot and found the woman standing on the edge of a hill approximately 200–250 feet high along the highway. Considering the gravity of the situation, the police immediately called in the fire brigade and an ambulance for help.
The police approached the spot from the opposite side of the hill and began speaking to the woman. Initially unwilling to listen, she was gradually persuaded through patient counselling and reassurance.
After sustained efforts, the police managed to safely bring her down. During preliminary inquiry, the woman said she had taken the extreme step due to personal and family-related issues, police said.
