Pune: MIDC Seeks Forest Clearance for Purandar Airport Project
Pune, 27th March 2026: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has applied for forest clearance for the proposed Purandar International Airport near Pune, marking a key procedural step in advancing the greenfield aviation project.
BJP MLA Mahesh Landge on Friday shared the update on social media platform X, stating that the proposal has been uploaded on the Centre’s online portal for diversion of around 38.5 hectares of land classified under a grassland ecosystem.
The proposed New Purandar International Airport is planned as a major infrastructure project aimed at augmenting the region’s aviation capacity.
According to project details, the airport will have two parallel runways measuring 4,000 metres in length and 60 metres in width each, with a projected capacity of handling up to 75 million passengers per annum.
Officials said that the project is expected to improve regional connectivity, attract investments and support industrial growth in and around Pune. The development is also seen as a step towards strengthening Pune’s position as a key economic hub in the state.
The proposal for forest clearance is a crucial stage in the approval process, as it involves diversion of land categorised under a sensitive ecosystem. Further clearances and regulatory approvals will be required before the project moves to the next phase.
