Pune: PMC Approves Rs 135 Crore Water Supply Project for Keshavnagar in Mundhwa
Keshavnagar, 28th March 2026: The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday approved a ₹135 crore water supply project for the Keshavnagar area in Mundhwa, with the aim of strengthening the drinking water network in newly merged villages.
The project proposes laying a 6.19 km-long main pipeline with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 800 mm. It will also include installation of a 600 kW high-capacity pumping system and development of a 71.5 km distribution network to supply water across the area.
As part of the plan, six overhead water tanks will be constructed to maintain adequate pressure in the system. Each tank will have a storage capacity ranging between 2.5 million litres and 3.5 million litres.
Standing committee chairman Shrinath Bhimale said the project is expected to significantly improve water availability in the area. He added that the scheme aims to provide long-term relief to residents and gradually reduce the dependence on costly water tankers.
The civic body plans to fund the project in phases over three financial years — 2026–27, 2027–28 and 2028–29. According to officials, funds earmarked earlier had been utilised for water supply projects in other newly merged villages, making it necessary to create a separate allocation for Keshavnagar.
