Second Tanker Tragedy in 48 Hours: Woman Dies in Wanowrie, Pune Residents Demand Strict Action
Wanowrie, 7th April 2026: A woman lost her life after being struck by a water tanker in Wanowrie on Tuesday morning, triggering anger among residents who say repeated accidents involving tanker vehicles have made local roads unsafe.
The victim, identified as Garcia Daniel, was hit by the tanker around 8.30 am near the bridge after Raheja Gardens towards the military area. The accident occurred at a spot close to Ganga Satellite when a tanker reportedly belonging to Katke Water Tankers hit her. She died on the spot due to the impact.
The incident quickly drew sharp reactions from residents of Wanwadi and nearby areas, who said the tragedy reflects a continuing pattern of dangerous tanker movement in residential neighbourhoods.
Citizens pointed out that the fatal crash occurred just two days after the death of 19-year-old national football player Aariz Shaikh, who was killed on April 5 in NIBM Annexe when a speeding tanker rammed into him.
According to residents, the back-to-back incidents have heightened fears about the unchecked operation of private water tankers in areas such as Wanowrie, Mohammadwadi, and Kondhwa.
Local residents criticised authorities for what they described as a complete administrative failure to regulate tanker traffic despite repeated complaints. They alleged that large tanker vehicles frequently pass through narrow residential roads during peak hours without proper monitoring, posing a serious risk to pedestrians and motorists.
