Hinjawadi, 7th April 2026: Power supply to Yashwin Housing Society in Hinjawadi was restored on Tuesday morning after a 22-hour outage caused by damage to a high-voltage power line during ongoing metro construction work in the area.

According to officials, the electricity supply to the society was disrupted at around 12.48 pm on Monday after a 22 kV high-tension cable developed a fault. The cable supplies power to three transformers that cater to 572 consumers in the society.

The incident occurred near the Dohler company while work on a metro station is underway along the road leading to Hinjawadi Industrial Area Phase III. During the construction process, layers of concrete reportedly fell over a power cable of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), pushing the line deeper into the concrete structure and leading to the fault.

Electricity department personnel launched an emergency repair operation and worked continuously to restore the supply. By around 7 pm on Monday, one fault in the cable was rectified. However, during testing, another fault was detected, which was located beneath a thick layer of concrete.

Teams carried out excavation work throughout the night to locate the damaged cable, but it remained buried under the concrete. The cable was finally traced at around 7 am on Tuesday, though additional concrete had to be broken to access it.

Meanwhile, to restore power to the affected residents, MSEDCL installed an alternative 30-metre high-tension cable to reroute the supply. Using this temporary arrangement, electricity was restored to Yashwin Housing Society at around 10.50 am on Tuesday.

Officials said work to permanently repair the original fault was still underway on Tuesday afternoon.
