Wakad Encroachment Drive: PCMC Clears 1,500 Sq M Land for Road Widening
Wakad, 7th April 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the Wakad–Mhatoba Nagar area, clearing 41 unauthorised huts and structures spread across approximately 1,500 square metres of land reserved for a 24-metre Development Plan (DP) road.
According to Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, the eviction action was undertaken as part of the road-widening project planned under the city’s development plan.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi and Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor. The drive was carried out by a team led by Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, along with Regional Officer Ashwini Gaikwad, Executive Engineer R. V. Shinde, and Urban Transport Department Executive Engineer Chandrakant More.
Officials from multiple departments jointly participated in the operation, including the municipal engineering department, slum rehabilitation and removal department, administration and engineering wing, urban transport department, town planning department, electricity department, anti-encroachment department, fire brigade, and personnel from the Maharashtra Security Force.
Civic officials said the action was necessary to keep land reserved in the development plan free from encroachments so that infrastructure projects such as road widening and public facilities can be implemented without delays.
The municipal administration has appealed to citizens not to undertake any unauthorised construction or encroachments on lands reserved under the development plan. Officials noted that such encroachments often create obstacles for future infrastructure projects and may ultimately lead to demolition action as per regulations.
PCMC Commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi said that removing encroachments is essential to strengthen major roads and public infrastructure in the rapidly growing city.
“Considering the rising population, increasing traffic pressure, and future infrastructure needs of Pimpri Chinchwad, road widening is not merely an administrative action but is directly linked to improving the daily lives of citizens. Cooperation from residents will help ensure such operations are carried out in a smooth, transparent, and effective manner,” he said.
He also appealed to citizens to support civic initiatives aimed at road widening and urban infrastructure development, adding that public participation is crucial to making the city more organised, efficient, and well-equipped for future growth.
