Pune: 40-Year-Old Killed as Drunk Driver Rams Car into Him on Hadapsar–Saswad Road
Pune, 13th April 2026: A 40-year-old man was killed after being run over by a car allegedly driven by an inebriated driver on the Hadapsar–Saswad road near Wadki Nala late on Sunday night. The Fursungi police have arrested the driver and registered a case of drunk driving.
The deceased has been identified as Sagar Balasaheb Saykar (40), a resident of Shewalwadi. The accused, Krishna Gopal Koilwad (30), currently residing in Bhekrainagar, Fursungi, and originally from Chakur in Latur district, has been taken into custody.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12.45 am. Saykar, who was in the travel business, was driving one of his two mini buses heading towards Saswad to pick up passengers. The second bus was being driven by his driver Abhijit Jamdade and was following Saykar’s vehicle.
An Ertiga car of the accused, coming from Hadapsar towards Saswad at high speed, allegedly cut in front of Jamdade’s bus near Wadki Nala and refused to give way. Jamdade then informed Saykar over the phone and asked him to stop the car.
Saykar subsequently intercepted the vehicle and stood in front of it to prevent the driver from fleeing. However, the accused allegedly rammed the car into Saykar, causing him to suffer severe head injuries and collapse on the road.
Police sub-inspector Nivrutti Mane, who was in the vicinity attending to another minor accident, reached the spot and, with the help of others, rushed the injured to a hospital. Doctors declared Saykar dead before treatment.
The accused driver fled the scene but was later tracked down and apprehended by the police. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was sent to Sassoon General Hospital for medical examination.
A case has been registered against him, and further investigation is underway.
