Ambedkar Jayanti 2026: SPPU Pays Tribute, Hosts Special Lecture in Pune
Pune, 14th April 2026: Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti was observed at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in a solemn and respectful atmosphere.
The programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Suresh Gosavi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Parag Kalkar, and Registrar (in-charge) Prof. (Dr.) Prafulla Pawar. A large number of students, faculty members, officials, and representatives of non-teaching staff associations were present. Among those in attendance were Prof. Vijay Khare, Dr. Sudhakar Bokefode, Prof. Prabhakar Desai, Prof. Vilas Adhav, Dr. Savita Kulkarni, and Dr. Ganesh Bhame.
Floral tributes were paid to Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, recognising his contributions to the Indian Constitution, social justice, and equality.
On the occasion, Padma Shri awardee Laxmikant Deshmukh, a retired IAS officer, delivered a lecture on “Dr. Ambedkar’s Concept of Economic and Social Democracy and Its Contemporary Relevance.” The event was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suresh Gosavi.
The programme provided an opportunity for the university community to reflect on Dr. Ambedkar’s ideas and legacy, and to reaffirm the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
