Pune Accident: Auto Driver Dead, Three Injured in ST Bus Collision Near Katraj Ghat
Katraj, 23rd April 2026: One person died and three others were injured in a road accident involving a state transport (ST) bus and an autorickshaw in the Ambegaon police station limits on Thursday evening.
According to police, the accident occurred around 5:25 pm near the second turn after the Katraj Ghat tunnel, on the Pune-bound carriageway. The collision involved an ST bus (MH 10 DT 2697) and an autorickshaw (MH 12 GS 9695).
The autorickshaw driver, identified as Hanumant Ramesh Hangarge (42), a resident of Sukhsagar Nagar near Bankar School in Bibewadi, died in the accident.
Three passengers travelling in the autorickshaw sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital by a 108 ambulance for treatment. The injured have been identified as Rajesh Ingawale (48), a resident of Gokul Nagar on Katraj-Kondhwa Road; Dashrath Nirgude (43), residing near Oswal Hospital in Upper Bibewadi; and Shahaji Laxman Shivde (41), a resident of Upper Indiranagar, Bibewadi.

Police said the ST bus was travelling from Swargate towards Vita in Sangli district, while the autorickshaw was heading towards Swargate from Khed Shivapur.
The bus driver, Jalinder Vishnu Shinde (53), a resident of Shedgewadi in Khanapur taluka of Sangli district, has been taken into custody. He is undergoing medical examination, police added.
Further investigation is underway.
