Pune, 28th April 2026: A five-member Junior Administrative Grade (JAG) inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the derailment of a coach of the Vande Bharat Express 22225 CSMT–Solapur near Pune Railway Station, an incident that disrupted train operations across one of the busiest rail corridors connecting Mumbai, Pune and Solapur.

Railway authorities confirmed that a total of 48 train services were impacted following the derailment, including cancellations, short terminations, diversions and rescheduling, as restoration work continued for several hours.

Committee Composition
According to the official document, the JAG-level committee comprises officers from multiple technical and operational departments:

Deputy Chief Safety Officer (Electrical) – Convenor

Deputy Chief Safety Officer (Mechanical)

Deputy Chief Engineer (Track)

Senior Divisional Safety Officer (Pune)

Deputy Chief Signal & Telecom Engineer (HQ)

The committee will examine the circumstances leading to the derailment and submit its findings to the Divisional Railway Manager.

Preliminary Findings
Initial inputs indicate that the derailment occurred at a double diamond crossing near Pune station, a specialized track structure designed to manage high traffic movement within limited yard space. Officials noted that components of the crossing, including plates, had sustained damage.

Railway sources stated that it took over five hours to restore the affected route. They also indicated that operational handling of advanced trainsets like Vande Bharat currently involves a limited pool of trained personnel, which contributed to the time taken for restoration.

Inquiry Framework
As per railway norms, JAG-level committees are constituted to investigate consequential derailments and other complex train accidents. Such committees typically include representatives from traffic, mechanical, and engineering departments and are tasked with determining technical and operational causes.

Further investigation is underway, and a detailed report is expected to outline the sequence of events and corrective measures.
