Hinjawadi Waterlogging: Authorities Set May 31 Deadline for Pre-Monsoon Works
Pune, 29th April 2026: A joint disaster management meeting was held at the PMRDA headquarters in Akurdi to review preparedness ahead of the monsoon and address recurring issues in the Hinjawadi IT Park area.
The meeting was chaired by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, who directed officials to take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth movement for residents and commuters during the rainy season.
Officials were instructed to prioritise the clearing of blocked drains, removal of encroachments, and widening of natural streams to improve water flow in and around Hinjawadi and Maan. Authorities emphasised that all pre-monsoon works must be completed by May 31, 2026.
During the meeting, a warning was issued that any instance of flooding or disaster arising from negligence or lack of planning would attract action against responsible officials under the Disaster Management Act.
The administration also stressed the need for coordinated efforts among multiple agencies, including PMRDA, MIDC, NHAI, local gram panchayats, and the Irrigation Department, to ensure timely execution of the works.
The meeting was attended by petitioner Sachin Londhe of the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park initiative, Additional Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi, Director of Development Permission Avinash Patil, Joint Commissioner (Land and Property) Poonam Mehta, Pimpri Chinchwad Police DCP (Traffic) Vivek Patil, and senior officials from the Forest Department, Zilla Parishad, and NHAI.
The review comes amid ongoing concerns over flooding and traffic disruptions in the Hinjawadi IT corridor during previous monsoon seasons.
