Pune: Woman Dies by Suicide at Sinhagad Fort, Body Recovered After Search Operation
Pune, 1st May 2026: A 28-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after jumping from a bastion near the Tophkhana area of Sinhagad Fort, police said. An accidental death report (ADR) has been registered at Haveli Police Station, Pune rural police.
According to police officials, the woman was a resident of Bijlinagar in Chinchwad and originally hailed from Nanded. She had been reported missing by her family on April 28, following which a complaint was lodged with the police. Alerts were circulated across police stations in the city.
During the technical investigation, her last known location was traced to the Sinhagad Fort area. A search operation was subsequently launched under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Vaishali Patil, along with officers Gire and Pravin Takawane and their team. The police also sought assistance from a team of trekkers to comb the difficult terrain.
Despite extensive efforts, the woman could not be located until late at night. The search resumed the next day, when it was discovered that she had jumped from a bastion near the Tuphkhan section of the fort.
Members of the trekking team, including Krishna Margale, Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sandeep Solaskar, Narayan Jawalkar, Sanjay Chorge, Uttam Pisal, Santosh Bhagat and Vaibhav Bhosale, descended into the valley using ropes and located the body. The body was later retrieved.
Officials from the forest department, including Samadhan Patil, Baliram Waykar and Sandeep Koli, assisted in the operation.
Police said the exact reason behind the alleged suicide is yet to be ascertained, and further investigation is underway.
