Pune: Govt Approves 134-Km Neral–Shirur Four-Lane Highway, Says Sunetra Pawar
Pune, 8th May 2026: The state government has approved the 134-km four-lane highway project connecting Neral to Shirur, a major infrastructure development aimed at improving connectivity between Mumbai, Pune, Marathwada and Ahilyanagar, said Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.
The proposed corridor — Neral–Vandre–Pait–Shiroli–Pabal–Malthan–Shirur — is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on the Pune–Shirur route while creating a direct high-speed link with Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). Officials said the project would act as a “game changer” for the state’s overall development.
The highway is also expected to give a major boost to the economic, industrial and logistics growth of the Raigad, Pune, Marathwada and Ahilyanagar regions. It is projected to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time, improving the efficiency of freight and passenger movement across key corridors.
Industrial hubs such as the Khed, Talegaon, Chakan, Ranjangaon and Supa MIDC zones are expected to benefit significantly from the project. The corridor is also likely to accelerate development in Khed, Shirur, Ambegaon and Maval regions, generating new opportunities for industry, employment and investment, the Deputy CM said.
The project was strongly pursued and consistently followed up by the late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Officials said that completing this ambitious project, which reflects his vision for balanced and comprehensive development of the state, would serve as a true tribute to his efforts.
