Pune: Talathi and Kotwal Arrested by ACB in Khed While Taking Rs 5,500 Bribe for Inheritance Entry in Land Records
Pune, 8th May 2026: The Pune unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested a village revenue officer (talathi) and a kotwal from Khed taluka for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500 from a complainant to process a succession entry in land records.
The accused were identified as Manisha Sahebrao Mane (45), talathi at Nimgaon Khandoba in Khed taluka, and Dattatraya Chhagan Chavan (58), a kotwal attached to the same office.
According to the ACB, the complainant’s father had died in 2024, following which the family sought mutation of inheritance rights for an ancestral agricultural land parcel at Kharpudi Budruk village in Khed taluka. The complainant had submitted an application for the succession entry at the Nimgaon Khandoba revenue office on March 6 this year.
Officials said that despite repeated follow-ups, the succession entry was not processed. When the complainant visited the office again on March 30, the talathi allegedly instructed the kotwal to collect money from him for completing the work.
The complainant later approached the ACB alleging that the two accused had demanded Rs 6,000 to process the inheritance entry. During verification conducted by the ACB on May 8, the accused allegedly agreed to accept Rs 5,500, including Rs 500 towards stamp expenses and Rs 5,000 for entering the succession mutation.
The ACB then laid a trap and caught the accused allegedly accepting the bribe at the Nimgaon Khandoba revenue office around 3.40 pm on May 7.
An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered against both accused at Khed-Rajgurunagar police station, Pune Rural. Further investigation is underway.
