Pune Video: Woman Lies on Railway Track to Escape Goods Train at Patas Station
Daund, 9th May 2026: A woman had a narrow escape at Patas Railway Station in Pune division after she allegedly lay flat on the railway track to save herself from an approaching goods train while crossing the tracks due to the lack of a pedestrian bridge. The shocking incident was captured on camera and has raised serious concerns over passenger safety at the station.
According to local residents, passengers at Patas Railway Station are still forced to risk their lives by crossing railway tracks because of inadequate pedestrian bridge facilities at certain sections of the station.
The incident occurred when the woman was crossing the tracks and a goods train suddenly received a signal to move. Realising that the train was approaching, the woman reportedly showed presence of mind and lay down on the track, narrowly escaping death as the train passed over her. The terrifying episode was recorded on video and has since drawn widespread attention.
Residents said that earlier, there was no foot overbridge connecting Platform No. 1 and Platform No. 2, forcing passengers to dangerously cross through or beneath stationary goods and passenger trains. Following years of public demand, the railway authorities eventually constructed a pedestrian bridge between the two platforms.
However, citizens pointed out that beyond Platform No. 2, there are still two additional railway tracks frequently used by goods trains. No bridge or safe crossing facility has been provided for these tracks, forcing passengers to continue crossing them on foot and putting their lives at risk.
Angry residents have questioned who would be held responsible if a major accident occurs in the future due to the lack of adequate infrastructure and safety measures at the station.
Hemant Kumar Behera, PRO Pune Division, said the incident at Patas railway station on Saturday morning was unfortunate and highlighted the risks associated with crossing railway tracks unlawfully.
“The woman was attempting to cross the tracks by passing underneath a stationary goods train. Meanwhile, after receiving the signal, the train started moving. Showing presence of mind, the woman immediately lay flat on the tracks, due to which she escaped without any injuries or physical harm,” he said.
He added that the railway administration has been repeatedly issuing advisories urging passengers not to cross tracks in such a dangerous manner and that awareness campaigns on railway safety will be intensified further.
“Work is also underway to extend the Foot Overbridge (FOB) near the station. Once completed, passengers will have safer and easier movement across platforms, and such difficulties can be avoided,” he said.
