Pune: Sayyed Nagar Residents Protest Recurring Drainage Blockages and Sewage Overflow
Hadapsar, 11th May 2026: Residents of Sayyed Nagar in Pune have raised serious concerns over recurring drainage blockages in the area, alleging that untreated wastewater has been overflowing onto the main road due to repeated choking of the drainage system.
According to local residents, the problem has persisted for several days and has worsened because of unauthorised hotel businesses operating in the locality. Citizens claimed that waste generated by these establishments frequently clogs the drainage lines, leading to sewage water spilling onto roads and public spaces.
The overflowing sewage has created unhygienic conditions in the area, with residents complaining of a foul smell and growing health concerns.
Locals alleged that despite multiple complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the civic administration has only carried out temporary measures and failed to provide a permanent solution.
Residents further pointed out that the drainage line gets blocked repeatedly near the same hotel establishments, prompting demands for strict action against the businesses allegedly responsible for the problem.
Citizens also said the old drainage infrastructure in the area is contributing to the issue and demanded that the PMC install a new drainage line in Sayyed Nagar to prevent future blockages.
Some residents have additionally sought an inquiry into whether any civic officials have links with the concerned business operators, alleging negligence in taking action despite repeated complaints.
