Pune Heatwave Alert: Lohgaon Among Hottest Places in Maharashtra at 43.8°C
Pune, 12th May 2026: Maharashtra is witnessing sharp weather fluctuations, with several districts facing intense heat while others are experiencing unseasonal rainfall. The changing weather conditions have created a mixed climate situation across the state, affecting daily life and public health.
Lohgaon witnessed severe heat on Monday, recording a maximum temperature of 43.8 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The temperature was 6.3 degrees above the seasonal average, placing Lohgaon among the hottest locations in Madhya Maharashtra.
Several parts of Pune and nearby areas also experienced intense heatwave-like conditions. Shivajinagar and Dudulgaon recorded 41.6 degrees Celsius each, while Baramati and Wadgaonsheri registered 41.2 degrees Celsius. Chinchwad recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius and Hadapsar touched 40.1 degrees Celsius.
The sharp rise in temperatures caused considerable discomfort among residents, with fewer people seen outdoors and reduced traffic movement during peak afternoon hours.
Temperatures in several districts have crossed 40 degrees Celsius. Jalgaon recorded the highest temperature in the state at 42.5 degrees Celsius, while Akola and Malegaon reported temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius.
Hot and humid conditions have also increased discomfort in parts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and central Konkan. Residents of Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and nearby suburbs are avoiding stepping outdoors during afternoon hours due to the rising heat. Health authorities have appealed to citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
At the same time, parts of Konkan, including Ratnagiri, have been witnessing unseasonal rain over the past few days. The rainfall has reportedly caused damage to mango orchards as well as cashew and coconut plantations.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the current weather pattern is likely to continue in parts of Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha over the next few days. The department has issued a yellow alert for rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several districts.
Meteorologists said cyclonic circulations over the Bay of Bengal, Sri Lanka, and nearby coastal regions, along with a developing low-pressure system, have created favourable conditions for pre-monsoon rainfall across parts of Maharashtra.
